Giving back
Active Aligners partners with Operation Smile
Every case we distribute helps fund safe surgery for a child born with a cleft condition. When you straighten your smile, you help give another child the chance to smile too.

Our partnership
A monthly donation for every case
For every Active Aligners case distributed in a month, we make a donation to Operation Smile South Africa. Every rand goes towards safe surgery and care for children with cleft conditions.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Active Aligners and enormously grateful for their generous support, which we expect will be over R100 000 per annum.”
Sarah Scarth, Executive Director, Operation Smile South Africa

The need
Every 3 minutes, a child is born with a cleft condition
Operation Smile is a global, volunteer based medical charity providing free surgery to repair cleft conditions. The need remains greatest in Africa, where safe surgery is not always accessible and a child may wait years for the chance to live a normal life.
Faustina
For 17 years, Faustina endured the pain and isolation that often come with an untreated cleft lip. Today, with free surgery from Operation Smile, she is living out her dreams as a seamstress and has become an outgoing, kind young woman. “Now, when I take a cup and drink, people use that same cup. It means I’m accepted by all.”
Akosua Manu
Bullying over her cleft lip pushed Akosua out of school in second grade and followed her into adult life. At 52, she finally learned the cause of her different smile, and that free surgery could change it. After a 10 hour bus journey to a surgical programme, she saw her new smile. “Now I am confident, always happy and love having my photo taken.”
Melokuhle and Anele
Two year old Melokuhle was born during Covid with a unilateral cleft lip and palate, and his mother Anele received little support. “I left the hospital without any knowledge. Watching milk come out of his nose during feeding was traumatic.” A surgical programme brought healing for Melokuhle, and peace of mind for his mother.
Giving smiles, transforming lives
A global family with a shared vision
With more than 6,000 active medical volunteers worldwide, Operation Smile is one of the largest volunteer based nonprofits. Its supporters believe that every child born with a cleft condition deserves safe, effective and timely care. As long as children need help, they will do whatever it takes to give them the care they deserve.
